What is Place-based Planning?

Place-based watershed planning is part of Oregon’s Integrated Water Resources Strategy. It is a voluntary, locally initiated and led effort in which a balanced representation of water interests within a watershed work in partnership to meet diverse needs within the watershed. Typically groups will identify current water resources issues (like water quality, water quantity, ecosystem, etc.); understand current and future needs; identify and prioritize strategic solutions to address the needs; and finally develop an integrated water resources plan.

In October 2015, Oregon Water Resources Department launched a grant program to find pilot programs to develop place-based plans. On Monday, November 16 a diverse group of stakeholders in the Pudding River Watershed met to determine if there was interest to go after grant funding to develop a place-based plan for the Pudding River Watershed.

East Valley Water District voted in its board meeting to be a participant in the process. We are very encouraged that there is a lot of energy toward a collaborative process. More updates on the process and EVWD’s involvement will be posted on this blog.
