In January 2015, the East Valley Water District initiated field investigations to determine if the Drift Creek site is suitable for a reservoir. These field investigations represent an early step in the environmental permitting process. The results from the field investigations will become a component of the permitting package the District submits to regulatory agencies.

evwd_archaeological_02022014-2The investigations include fish surveys, archaeological studies, wetland investigations, elk presence investigations and geotechnical studies. Each of these field investigations require engineers, archaeologists, biologists and specialists to visit the project site, observe conditions, and take measurements using specialized instruments. For the archaeological and geotechnical studies, samples may need to be taken for further analysis.

The results from field investigations will be used to determine if the site is feasible for a reservoir. The results will also determine the design characteristics that could avoid or minimize impacts to the area. If deemed feasible, the information will be used to submit environmental permitting applications to the federal and state government.

The studies will take place over the next eighteen months.Following the completion of the field studies, the District and their consultants will work to complete any additional studies and documentation to complete the permitting package.
